Kate Perugini was not only the wife of one of my favorite artists, she was also the daughter of Charles Dickens, and modeled for one of my favorite paintings! You can read more about this interesting lady here.

Adorable! Though, is it just me, or does her face look awfully mature for such a short child?

I think it's probably because her eyes are so large and dark . . . or maybe Victorian children just looked older! I think there was a similar comment about a Bougereau awhile ago . . .

she is So cute and the flowers are amazing---I espec. like the pink ones. :) but the yellow top ones are so prettily light filled as well. :D

Questions to ask about a painting

What is the subject of the painting? Does the title add to your understanding of the painting?

What's the main color scheme? Why do you think the artist chose these colors? How do they make you feel?

Where do you look first? What do your eyes follow around the painting? What seems most important in this painting?

Is the painting organized, or jumbled? Chaotic or peaceful?

Consider what it all might mean: What does the painting tell you? What is the artist trying to say about the subject matter? What feeling does the painting evoke? How did the painter achieve this effect?
